FOR IN-PERSON Classes:
- Properly worn masks (covering the nose and the mouth) are now optional but recommended in the dojo. (Updated June 2023)
- Please maintain 6 feet distance between you and any other persons.
- All students must submit a signed Application & Liability Form before participating in class
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Bring taiko sticks (bachi), personal water bottle to class every week.
- Please be on time. Most classes are only 55 minutes.
- Please wait outdoors until the class is invited to enter the classroom.
- As must as possible, do warm-up exercises and stretching before AND after class.
- Please remove street shoes before entering the dojo.
- Wear tabi/indoor footwear in class. Bare feet are also acceptable.
- Sanitize hands before entering the dojo.
- For safety reasons, please refrain from wearing jewelry adornment, except for religious or medical purposes.
- Earplugs are recommended for class participants and observers. (available for sale on the first day of class)
- Have respect for the art form, teacher (sensei), each other, the dojo (place we practice in), and the instruments.
- Students will be requested to help set up instruments (first class of the day) and put away instruments (last class of the day).
- Class will begin with a traditional greeting (“yoroshiku onegai shimasu”) and bow.
- Please refrain from unnecessary talking during class. Time for questions will be provided at the end of class.
- No gum chewing, smoking, eating, or drinking (except water) in class.
- No video taping without prior permission from the instructor.
- Audio tape recording a part of the lesson is permissible upon request; however, DO NOT let the tape recording affect your concentration in class.
- Class will end with a traditional parting (“arigatou gozaimashita”) and bow.
- If you miss a class, call a classmate and find out what took place.
- Relax, have fun, and be patient with yourself! It takes time and effort!
FOR ONLINE Classes:
- All students must submit a signed Application & Liability Form before participating in class
- All students must submit an Online Course Consent Form before participating in class.
- Dress appropriately.
- Be prepared – have your playing surface & drumsticks set up prior to the start of class.
- Have a water bottle nearby for break time.
- Be on time and wait in the Zoom waiting room. Most classes are only 55 minutes.
- Check your tech before the start of class.
- During class, please MUTE your microphone unless asked to do otherwise.
- Save questions for the end of class, raise your hand to be acknowledged OR type it in the “chat.”
- Be present and engaged.
- Refrain from eating during class.
