A casual, interactive webinar looking back 25 years to the very first TaikoJam Concert at the inaugural 1997 NATC (North American Taiko Conference) in Los Angeles. There will be clips from the concert and talk story about what it was like to be on-stage at TaikoJam ’97 as well as the state of the taiko community at the time. In the dead of winter, 18 female and non-binary taiko artists are invited to Minneapolis Minnesota to workshop, collaborate, and share their artistry during a 2-week residency, culminating in the HERbeat concert on February 29, 2020 just before the covid pandemic shuts the country down. This film documents the path to the HERbeat fruition. Our Chizuko Endo, was one of the 18 invited artists and presented her piece Yamamba de Koolau, the wandering female mountain spirit.
