Special ONE DAY ONLY workshop on President Day Feb 15, 2016 with Marco Lienhard, founder of Taikoza (New York). This 2-hour workshop will focus on learning a piece titled “Kaitoryu” feature a taiko set of shime daiko and nagged daiko.

Manoa Japanese Language School is holding a New Year Community Fair and Rummage Sale on Sunday, January 31 from 10-2pm. There will be lots of fun and FREE entertainment and cultural activities for the entire family. Keiki games, food, crafts, and entertainment by Kenny Endo’s Taiko Center of the Pacific, Tsugaru shamisen by Patrick Oiye, and Shishimai by Hawaii Okinawa Creative Arts. As part of its New Year’s tradition, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai`i (JCCH) will celebrate 2016 with its annual New Year’s `Ohana Festival on Sunday, January 10. Nate Gyotoku, JCCH’s Chief Operating Officer/Director of Programs, says, “The New Year’s ‘Ohana Festival is our largest community event of the year! It is the largest festival highlighting Japanese New Year’s traditions and has in itself become a big tradition for the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii and the community over the years.” Continue reading
