IMAGINARY HOMELANDS – Feb 26 & 27

A collaboration of Okinawan music & dance, and Japanese taiko. Choreography by Yukie Shiroma and music by Kenny Endo, Norman Kaneshiro, and Derek Fujio. In the works since the beginning of the pandemic, this show has been postponed several times. Now, Imaginary Homelands is becoming a reality – February 26 (7:30 pm HT) and 27 (2 pm HT) at Windward Community College’s Paliku Theatre – a HYBRID performance – both IN PERSON and LIVE and virtual LIVE-Streamed. TCP offers classes year round however, due to the covid19 situation, we are still unable to return to our practice space. Spring Session II will continue to be offered ONLINE (confirmed 2.24.22).

CHANGES in Spring Session II:

Adult Beginning II will switch to TUESDAYS – 6:30-7:25 pm NEW DAY and TIME!!!
Taiko Set, and Drills for Skills will be on hiatus for Spring II.

Spring Session I will be offered ONLINE. Please join us in continuing the beat!

Spring Session I 2022 Schedule:

Sundays
12-12:30 pm – Taiko Tots
1-1:55 pm – Adult Beginning Taiko I
2-2:55 pm – Youth Beginning Taiko I
3-3:55 pm – Youth Beginning Taiko II
4-4:55 pm – Youth Performing Ensemble & Trainees

Mondays
5:30-6:25 pm – Hachijo Taiko
6:30-7:25 pm – Taiko Set *NEW COURSE!*

Taiko Set – The practice and performance techniques of playing multiple taiko will be covered in this course, among them:  stance, grip, basic grooves, independence, moving from drum to drum, soloing, traditional Japanese rhythms, and the art of accompaniment. 16th note back beat (as found in rock and funk), Brazilian, Cuban, and patterns from Kotobuki Jishi (Tokyo Lion Dance drumming) will be covered.
