JOIN US as we continue to move and learn new things with taiko on ZOOM. This fall, we also offer three NEW classes: private shinobue (bamboo flute) lessons for beginners, Hatha Yoga Flow (2 days only, Tuesdays November 10, 17 at 5:30 pm), and Taiko Tailored Workshop (4 classes only, Sundays November 15, 22, 29, December 6 at 2 pm). PLUS Taiko Tots (ages 2+), Family Taiko, Youth Beginning-Advanced; Adult Beginning-Advanced; Edo Bayashi, and Drills for Skills. To Register:

The concert honors two of Kenny’s mentors: Barbara B Smith, esteemed ethnomusicologist who just celebrated her 100th birthday, and William P Malm, foremost academic expert of Japanese music who recently donated a set of Edo Bayashi instruments which will be showcased.

The concert also celebrates Kenny’s 45th anniversary of playing taiko.

SCEP Live Online concert series is a joint effort between the UH Mānoa Outreach College, UH Mānoa Music Department, the East-West Center Arts Program, and Friends of Manoa Library.

“Give Aloha” is Foodland’s Annual Community Matching Gifts Program.  It was created in 1999 to honor Foodland’s founder, Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan to continue his legacy of giving back to the community. Normally donations are accepted ONLY during the month of September but the donation period has been extended to 9 pm, Friday, October 2.

Due to COVID-19, the EWC Gallery remains closed to the public until further notice. However, we are happy to host our virtual Sunday Spotlight series in conjunction with the current exhibition “Musical Instruments: Sounds of the Asia Pacific” (extended through December 20, 2020). The exhibition features Asia-Pacific musical instruments from the Ethnomusicology Instrument Collection at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Music Department.All Sunday Spotlight programs will be presented on Sundays at 2:00 p.m. (Hawai‘i Standard Time) via Zoom. Programming will include conversations and musical demonstrations by Hawai‘i-based artists, illustrated talks, panel discussions, and an instrument-making workshop for families, culminating in a live-streamed performance event in honor of Professor Emerita Barbara B. Smith on December 20. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
